Trivial Pursuit 101

British Colonists introduced this phrase to the Indian people.

“___ ___” is a British phrase, used in foxhunting, shouted when a rider sees the fox. It was the signature war cry of the British ruling class when hunting a fox across the country.

The expression became commonly used during the Second World War, by English-speaking fighter pilots to say that an enemy aircraft has been sighted and even today it is still used for this purpose.

Mohd. Rafi and Shammi Kapoor transformed the boom from the high aristocracy of the British Empire into a gentle Indian croon when they used it in 1962, in one of their collaborations.

The phrase was softened to a treble variation, and infused with such musical magic that it sways the mind and body as easily today as it did four decades ago.

After three hit films in a row; 'Guide' (1965), 'Teesri Manzil' (1966), and 'Jewel Thief', Vijay Anand experienced his first flop; "Kahin Aur Chal" (1968).

Initially, "Kahin Aur Chal" (1968), had the makings of a hit, as it starred heart-throb Dev Anand and Asha Parekh, who were both top box office draws in 1968, along with music composers Shanker-Jaikishen.

In the biography of Mr. Vijay Anand, titled "Ek Hota Goldie," the writer Anita Padhye tells us about a very specific reason why this 1968 film starring Dev Anand and Asha Parekh flopped. There is no way a Goldie Anand movie with Dev Anand and Asha Parekh, and with Shankar-Jaikishen as Music Director's would otherwise go unnoticed.

What is the so called "specific reason" due to which the film flopped ?

Additional Trivia :

** The biography "Ek Tha Goldie" is based on tape-recorded interviews of Mr. Vijay Anand that the writer conducted through the 90's till Vijay Anand's demise in 2004.

** Cameraman Jal Mistry was a good friend of both Dev Anand & Goldie. When he decided to Produce a film, he entrusted the responsibility of Directing it to Vijay Anand.

Since Jal Mistry was associated with Navketan for a long time, both Dev and Vijay Anand decided to help him. Dev Anand and Asha Parekh were cast for the leading roles in the film titled 'Kahin Aur Chal.'

The patriarchal figure of Filmistan Studios, Tolaram Jalan was financing the film. Tolaram Jalan signed a contract with Jal Mistry that all the rights of the film would be with Jalan himself.

The film had Music by Shankar Jaikishan. Jal Mistry had suggested their name. They were the top of the line Music Directors at that time.

Four songs were recorded for "Kahin aur Chal". Three of those were picturised in Khandala. "Aye Jaanewale Aa, Der Na Lage" was a beautiful melody. The hero works as an engine driver and the heroine looks forward to the time when his train would reach the station for two minutes everyday.

Despite all the ingredients of a sure shot hit, the movie flopped badly and hardly anybody has heard of it.
