S.D. Burman started his career in Bombay with Filmistan's 'Eight Days' (1946), Produced by Savak Vacha and Ashok Kumar.
The entire Direction of 'Eight Days' was the work of Ashok Kumar, though Dattaram N Pai’s
name appeared as Director in the credits.
There were four new faces in the movie : Raja Mehdi Ali Khan, Upinder Nath Ashk, Mohsin Abdullah (husband of the actress Neena) and 'X' - who also happened to be the writer of the film.
'X' played the role of Flight Lieutenant Kirpa Ram, a shell-shocked Air Force officer in the film.
He went on to reach legendary status in the world of Urdu Literature.
'Eight Days' (1946), is his only on-screen appearance as an Actor.

ReplyDeleteActually first Ashok kumar's brother-in-law S.Mukherjee was to play this role of Flight Lieutenant Kirpa Ram. But when Mukherjee said No to this , Ashok kumar persuaded Saadat Hassan Manto to play the role.
