Mahjabeen Bano was born to a Muslim father, Ali Baksh, and a Hindu mother, Prabhavati Tagore.
She was born on 1st August, 1932, in Dr. Gadre's Clinic in Bombay. At the time of her birth, her parents were unable to pay the fees of Dr. Gadre, who had delivered her. Having hit upon hard times, her father left her at a Muslim orphanage, however, he picked her up after a few hours.
Her father Ali Baksh, a veteran of Parsi theatre, played small roles in films like 'Id Ka Chand' and composed music for films like 'Shahi Lutera'.

ReplyDeleteBorn Mahjabeen Bano, she was an Indian Movie Actor and Poet; who used to write under the pseudonym 'Naaz'.
"I write, I recite", with Music by Khayyam, is the only recorded Album of the Actor wherein she recites her selected Poems.
The Album as an LP was released by EMI in 1981, and was re-released as a CD in 2001 by Music India.
