Basu Bhattacharya
"Sparsh" (1980), Sai Paranjpye's first film and a truly great piece of work, makes it clear that physically challenged people do not need sympathy. Naseeruddin Shah gave one of his best performances and bagged the Best Actor - National Award for this film.
The film was Produced by Basu Bhattacharya and strangely, it was not released for a long time. A lot of bitterness was generated between Sai Paranjpye and Basu Bhattacharya over the issue of the film's release.
Angry at Bhattacharya's conduct, Sai Paranjpye did something which was her way of taking out on Basu Bhattacharya.
What did Sai Paranjpye do ?

ReplyDelete'Bashu Bhatt'.
The name 'Bashu Bhatt' was a shortened version of Basu Bhattacharya's name.
Angry at Basu Bhattacharya's conduct, Sai Paranjpye deliberately gave Farooq Shaikh a shorter version of Basu's name to complement his character in the film.
