'Tarzan Goes to India' (1962), is an English film Directed by John Guillermin and Produced by
Sy Weintraub. Actor Jock Mahoney stars as a lean, tall and agile Tarzan.


In the film, Tarzan is summoned to India by an old friend, a Maharajah (Murad), who is concerned that 300 elephants will be drowned if a valley gets flooded, when a dam is opened to create a man-made lake, to power a hydroelectric plant.


Tarzan is pitted against two engineers who ignore the catastrophic results their work will create. Tarzan is assisted by the Maharajah's daughter, Princess Kamara ('X'), and Jai (Jai), a young Mahout who rides a mighty elephant named 'Gajendrah'.

Producer Sy Weintraub chose a 15 year old 'X' as his lead actress, from 800 applicants who answered an ad in a Bombay daily, and he discovered Jai the elephant boy on the streets of Bombay.


Feroz Khan, who started his career by doing low budget films, appeared in the role of Prince Raghu Kumar in this film. He later went on to become a star in his own right.








Identify 'X', who made her debut by playing the role of Princess Kamara in 'Tarzan Goes To India' (1962). Her performance in this English film was good enough for her to receive many more film offers, and she went on to star in many Hindi films.




Additional Trivia :

Mr. Feroz Khan's father Mr. Sadiq Ali Khan Tanoli was an Afghan hailing from the Ghazni province of Afghanistan, and his mother Fatima was of Persian ancestry.
